Vacuum Electron Devices (VED’s), particularly microwave vacuum tubes, remain indispensable components in high-power and high-frequency systems used in defense, radar, satellite communications, and scientific instrumentation. Despite the rapid advancement of solid-state technologies, VED’s continue to demonstrate superior performance in demanding environments that require high power density, frequency agility, and radiation hardness.
In this context, TÜBİTAK Research Institute for Fundamental Sciences (TBAE) is organizing a summer school on “Vacuum Electron Devices (Microwave Vacuum Tubes) (TBAE VED’25)” between August 11-16, 2025. This intensive summer school is designed to provide graduate students, early-career researchers, and professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the physics, design principles, and applications of modern microwave vacuum tubes. These include klystrons, traveling wave tubes (TWTs), magnetrons, and vircators. The program will integrate fundamental concepts with real-world engineering challenges by combining theoretical lectures with simulations. The school program includes an exploration of current trends in vacuum electronics, production and manufacturing technologies of VEDs, theory and practical aspects, as well as, pulsed power systems. The school’s design fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and prepares the next generation of scientists and engineers for innovation in high-power microwave technologies.
